Yummy Gravy

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups chicken broth (preferably low-sodium)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt (to taste)
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper (to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce (optional, for a deeper flavor)
  • 1 tablespoon chicken drippings (if available, optional)

Instructions:

In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.

  1. Once melted, add the flour and whisk continuously for 2-3 minutes until the mixture becomes golden and bubbly. Make sure the flour doesn't brown too much.
  2. Gradually pour in the chicken broth while whisking to prevent lumps. Continue to whisk until the mixture thickens, about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Add the onion powder, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and soy sauce (if using). Stir to combine. Taste and adjust the seasoning as needed.
  4. Reduce the heat to low and let the gravy simmer for another 2-3 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.

Optional - Add drippings:
If you have any chicken drippings from a roast or fried chicken, stir them in now for added richness and depth of flavor.
