Ingredients:
- 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 cups chicken broth (preferably low-sodium)
- 1/2 teaspoon salt (to taste)
- 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper (to taste)
- 1 teaspoon soy sauce (optional, for a deeper flavor)
- 1 tablespoon chicken drippings (if available, optional)
Instructions:
In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
- Once melted, add the flour and whisk continuously for 2-3 minutes until the mixture becomes golden and bubbly. Make sure the flour doesn't brown too much.
- Gradually pour in the chicken broth while whisking to prevent lumps. Continue to whisk until the mixture thickens, about 3-4 minutes.
- Add the onion powder, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and soy sauce (if using). Stir to combine. Taste and adjust the seasoning as needed.
- Reduce the heat to low and let the gravy simmer for another 2-3 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.
Optional - Add drippings:
If you have any chicken drippings from a roast or fried chicken, stir them in now for added richness and depth of flavor.
